A NOTE FROM MATT & MIKE
Dear friends,
We wanted to let you know that after careful consideration, we have decided to be just friends.
We know this will come as a great surprise to just about everyone. Please accept our apologies for telling you like this; we just prefer that you get the news from us first-hand, rather than through the rumor mill.
It's been a couple of weeks now since this happened. So far we've kept it to ourselves so we could sort things-through on our own, spending time both together and apart. This also gave us an opportunity to mourn a bit before delivering the news to our friends and family.
Usually when you talk about breakups, the next logical question is, "Why?" Though it may be easy to say it happened for reason x or y, the truth is that these things rarely fall into a single, simple category. The decision was based on several factors, which are private. Relationships are complex, and ours was no exception; please don't disrespect it by speculating or oversimplifying the reasoning behind our breaking-up. We both love each other very much, but sometimes you reach a point where you just need to move-on.
We are still the very best of friends, and will remain roommates; rest assured that we will always be an important part of each others' lives. And please don't worry... you won't have to take any sides. We still love and laugh together, and that won't ever change.

So I had a great birthday week. Many THANK YOU's for the well-wishes!
It's been awhile since I had a full-on, name-dropping, show-n-tell, what-I-did-this-week narrative, and since it's my birthday, I'm going to take that liberty now.

The one that made me want to reach-out to a person.
The one that made me smile.
It's now been one year since Matt and I met. Last night I spent some time looking back through some of our first e-mail exchanges. I found an e-mail I'd sent to him within about 30 minutes of dropping him off at the airport for his return flight to the East Coast. I asked when I'd get to see him again.
Long-distance relationships are hard. There was a time when I missed him so much it hurt. We were lucky to be able to see each other every few weeks.
Now that he's here with me, I get to cuddle-up with him every day, and I can't even tell you how amazing that is.
Now that he's here with me, life is that much better. Matt makes me smile. Matt makes me happy.
This morning he got up at 6am and went to the store to get me a freshly-baked loaf of bread, with a card and a ribbon on top. (What can I say, the man knows the way to my heart.)
We joke about how we own each others' butt. But Matt owns my heart.
I'll save the world from having to read any more mushy sappy stuff, except...
Matt, I love you so much. Happy Anniversary.

(OK, so this post is WAY overdue.)
What the hell took me so long? Well, I wanted to post somethin' really eloquent on the subject, and every time I sat down to write it, I just couldn't get it right.
So today I decided I need to just get the news out, and worry about the other details later. Here goes!
In July of this year... I met someone very special. And... would you believe it? We met here on LiveJournal.
Let me clarify. I was not looking for anyone or anything. It started-out innocent enough. I started reading his LJ, and leaving a few comments for him. Turns-out he's on the 411 as well, so we started chatting there.
Seems harmless enough, right?
But Bear411 messages begat AIM messages.
And AIM messages begat phone calls.
And the phone calls became a daily phenomenon.
I normally do not place a lot of faith in long-distance relationships... especially when you've just met someone.
But this is different. This is Matt, and he is extraordinary.
Matt is 28, with brown hair, a handsome mug, intoxicating smile, and gorgeous blue eyes. He is just devastatingly handsome.
