Top Chef Season 5 - Hottie alert
619'd!

Rich on Top Chef
Be sure to check-out Season 5 of Top Chef...

The 619's very own hottie Richard Sweeney will be a contestant!

(In case you needed another reason to watch besides the food, the drama and the hunky Tom Colicchio...)

Rich is the Executive Sous Chef at Downtown San Diego's Confidential, a swanky nightclub and tapas bar... not to mention a part-time bartender at Pecs (where the bears tend to hang-out, not to mention the same bar that employs [info]kingfuraday and [info]maverick1303.)

You may also remember a little music video I posted showing Rich and Matt guest-bartending at Confidential last year. (YouTube, 1:30, work-safe.)

(And, for those who asked... yes, he is family.)

Woo-hoo!

Zach Galifianakis in the Kanye West video

How on earth could I have missed this?

Earlier this year apparently, Kanye West asked (hottie) Zach Galifianakis to create an alternate music video for his single "Can't Tell Me Nothing." It's pretty cool.

You can watch the video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpwgYsYWwdc (Lower res)

You may remember Zach from his VH1 talk show "Late World with Zach," or from the movie Out Cold, or from a number of TV and film appearances. Zach now has a DVD out with his stand-up comedy called "Zach Live at the Purple Onion," and will be appearing in Sean Penn's film Into the Wild.

Sadly, he's straight.

*sigh*

Gloomy Bear - big in Japan

Some of you may have already seen this. Thought it was pretty nifty.

The concept underlines the great irony about bears: they look cuddly, but they'll still eat you!

This is the story of Gloomy Bear and a young fellow named Pity, who tries to keep Gloomy Bear as a pet. Watch as cuteness and violence ensue.

(YouTube, 3min, work safe. The first half is the cartoon, the second half is an interview with the creator.)

(By the way, is that Dr. Mohinder Suresh's understudy translating during the interview!?)

If you haven't heard, BearCiti has announced their mobile website.  This means you can chat with your buds from your phone.

I was a beta tester and I can say the service works wonderfully... loads very quickly... and lets you send and read messages easily.

Eventually, this will become part of a premium service offering in the future.  But for now, it's free.

Check it out... point your mobile browser to mobile.bearciti.com

From USA Today:
In a move that many travelers would probably like to see in the USA, Brazilian aviation officials say they'll prohibit the country's national carriers from overbooking flights around the New Year holiday. That comes after a chaotic Christmas travel period in which scores of Brazilian fliers were stranded because of what authorities say was "heavy" overbooking by Brazil's top carrier.

From USA Today:
Airport security officials think they have a new device that will both improve security and help reduce lines by making the process more efficient. But the new device –- known as a backscatter X-ray machine -– has raised the concern of privacy advocates because it gives fairly complete images of everything hidden under a passengers’ clothing.

Now, USA TODAY writes that the "new airport screening machine that peers under travelers’ clothing has been modified so it won’t show intimate body parts when it’s tested at a U.S. airport for the first time starting next month. The modification to the controversial backscatter X-ray machine seeks to quiet critics who have helped block its use in airports by saying the vivid images shown to security screeners invade passenger privacy. The new, altered images will show only cartoon-like black-and-white outlines of each passenger."
